    DENTAL DISEASE and INTRAORAL TREATMENT

    This session of the course is dedicated entirely to the description of dental disease in pet rabbits (including pathophysiology), and to the intraoral treatment of incisor and cheek teeth.

  • Pathophysiology of Dental Disease (47 min.)

    This lecture focuses on the complex pathophysiology of dental disease (both congenital and acquired), including the following etiologies and patterns, as well as how these etiologies merge and overlap:

    - trauma;

    - insufficient occlusal wear;

    - metabolic bone disease (MBD).

  • Dental Disease (93 min.)

    This extensive lecture is focused solely on visual description of dental disease and related complications. The visual description includes dental and bony specimens as well as diagnostic imaging modalities displaying radiographic, CT, and endoscopic abnormalities. A special focus is put on comparison between radiographic and CT abnormalities.

    Diseases discussed in this section include:

    - elongation of clinical crowns;

    - elongation of reserve crowns and apices;

    - periapical infections;

    - osteomyelitis

  • Treatment of Incisor Teeth (104 min.)

    This lecture describes the indications and the intraoral procedures for treatment of dental disease of incisor teeth, including:

    - extraction;

    - coronal reduction and amputation.

    Special emphasis will be put on extraction of incisor teeth, including:

    - dental instruments;

    - a practical session with videos of the step-by-step procedure;

    - extraction of single incisor teeth.

  • Intraoral Treatment of Cheek Teeth (95 min.)

    This lecture describes the indications and the intraoral procedures for treatment of dental disease of premolar and molar teeth (cheek teeth), including:

    - coronal reduction (instruments, visual procedures, follow-up);

    - extractions (instruments, visual procedures, suture of the gingiva, complications, follow-up).

  • Medical Treatment (29 min.)

    This lecture is focused on the medical treatment as an adjunct to the dental and the surgical treatment of dental disease.

    It includes:

    - antimicrobial treatment;

    - analgesic treatment;

    - supportive treatment, including assisted feeding
